$441 billion in 2005, making it the seventh largest in the U.S.

·        Ohio ranks No. 1 in Swiss cheese production; 2^nd in production of egg; 6th in soybean production, and is a leading supplier of corn, wheat, diary products, frozen foods, fresh produce, and edible oils used in food production.

·        Ohio is a national leader in the production of automobile, truck and auto parts with Honda of America, General Motors, Ford and DaimlerChrysler comprising the State's "Big Four" automobile manufacturers.

·        Ohio is a leading center in medical care and research.  Some of the world's leading medical facilities such as the Cleveland Clinic, Ohio State University and University Hospitals as well as two of the National Institutes of Health (NIH)-designated comprehensive cancer centers are located in Ohio. 

·        Ohio is home to a number of world-renowned research centers including Ohio's state-funded Edison Program.  Named for Ohio native Thomas Edison, the Thomas Edison Program helps link pure research at Ohio's universities with practical needs of business through seven technology centers.

·        Ohio has the largest concentration of plastics industry and industry-related companies in the U.S. It leads the nation in the production and sale of polymers and related products.

Ohio is an export leader with $34.8 billion in total exports. Ohio firms ship products to 209 countries, and the state accounts for about 4% of the U.S. export total. Top exports are industrial machinery, transportation and electronic equipment, instruments, and chemicals.

Ohio has the 4th largest interstate highway network in the US, which provides direct access to all regions of the country.  Ohio's 184 public airports allow direct international links with Europe and Asia.  Due to this strategic location, the State is home to four major air-cargo hubs handling more than 1 million tons annually.

The State is also linked to international destinations via its waterway.  Ohio's "North Coast" border is Lake Erie, an international shipping hub with six ports that transport cargo to the Gulf of Mexico and Atlantic coasts.  To the south lies Ohio River that offers access to Middle American markets via the Mississippi River and the world markets via the Port of New Orleans.
