The USSPA received a 2-member delegation from Shenzhen Federation of Logistics and Purchasing, headed by Ms. Zheng Yanlin, General Secretary (Center) to discuss possible cooperation in the upcoming China (Shenzhen) International Logistics Fair (CILF). A luncheon was hosted for the delegation at Fat Angelo’s Italian Restaurant after the meeting. Six members attended the meeting and luncheon.

The USSPA received a 5-member delegation from Xiamen Municipal Trade Development Bureau, headed by Mr. Yao Muzhong, Deputy Director General to discuss possible cooperation in the 13th CIFIT International Logistics Fair which will be held on Sept. 8th-11th, 2009.

Mr. Alex Fong, CEO of Hong Kong General Chamber of Commerce (HKGCC) hosted a luncheon reception for USSPA at JW Marriott Hong Kong. Six members attended the event. Chamber Services Limited (CSL), a fully-owned subsidiary of the HKGCC, has been appointed New York’s Empire State Trade and Investment Representative for China and Hong Kong on 22 Feb, 2008 and Miss Corina Tse, Principal Consultant will be in charge of the project. We welcome CSL to join us as a member of the USSPA Greater China.

The USSPA hosted the "Invest in USA " seminar at China International Fair for Investment and Trade (CIFIT), held in Xiamen on September 9th 2007. This half-day program was well attended by over 100 officials and business leaders. Representatives from Port of Long Beach, Illinois, New Mexico, North Carolina, visa officials from the U.S. Consulate General, Guangzhou made presentation related to business climate, location, incentives and visas at the event.

The USSPA received a 4-member delegation from China Foreign Trade Centre in Guangzhou, headed by Mr. Xu Bing, Vice Chairman to discuss possible cooperation in the upcoming Canton Fair which will be held in Oct 2007. A luncheon was hosted for the delegation at Fat Angelo’s Italian Restaurant after the meeting.

The USSPA received a 3-member delegation from China Chamber of Commerce for Import & Export of Machinery & Electronic Products in Beijing, headed by Mr. Xu Yimeng, Vice Secretary General to discuss possible cooperation in the upcoming China Hi-Tech Fair which will be held in Oct 2007. Mr. James Mayfield, Commercial Consul of USFCS Hong Kong, Mr. Robert Murphy, Commercial Consul and Mr. Barry Zhang, Senior Commercial Specialist of USFCS Guangzhou also attended the meeting. A luncheon was hosted for the delegation at the New Dynasty Scenic Restaurant.

Mr. Alex Fong, CEO, Hong Kong General Chamber of Commerce and Mr. Andrew Miller, Managing Director, Asia, Xinhua Finance attended lunch meeting with 7 USSPA members at JW Marriott Hong Kong Mr. Joseph Chan, Head, Business Development of Xinhua Finance also attended the meeting. The USSPA annual election meeting was held after lunch. Edward Yau was elected as the President, Shirley Co as Vice President/Secretary and Salina Wong as Treasurer/Port Coordinator. Norman Li remained as Emeritus President.

The President and members including representatives from Illinois, North Carolina and Pennsylvania held meeting with the China Ministry of Commerce in Beijing to discuss Vice-Premier Wu Yi's upcoming Buying Mission to the U.S. in May 2007. Virginia, Port of Georgia and New York and New Jersey Port Authority also expressed interest in inviting the Chinese delegation to their areas.

Annual Dinner Party was held at the Shun Tak Clans Association in Hong Kong. The event was attended by 27 members, staff and alumni.

USSPA hosted a luncheon meeting at the J. W. Marriott Hong
Kong with Mr. Alan Leong (梁家傑議員), member of the Hong Kong Legislative Council. Eight members attended the event.

USSPA and Hong Kong Trade Development Council co-hosted the “Latest Trends of Investing & Sourcing in the USA” seminar on 30 November 2006. It was well received by over 200 attendees with 160 companies registered. The participating 8 states include, Arizona, Illinois, Mississippi, Missouri, New Mexico, North Carolina, Ohio, and Virginia. The event was supported by Port of New Jersey & New York, and Port of Long Beach. A networking reception sponsored by State of Virginia was held after the seminar.

The Association participated at the World SME Expo 2006 at the Hong Kong Convention & Exhibition Centre from 29 November, 2006 to 1 December, 2006. USSPA and members’ materials and publications were on display at the USA pavilion. USSPA also hosted a networking reception at Ocean Blue Grills & Bar for participating States and local economic development agencies.

USSPA organized an outing to Ngong Ping 360 in Lantau, Hong Kong on 25 November, 2006. Eleven USSPA and family members participated and visited the Buddha during the trip.

A First Aid seminar including CPR demonstration was organized for USSPA. Staff form Ohio, Illinois, North Carolina, Port of New York & New Jersey and Port of Long Beach attended the program.

Supported by China Council for the Promotion of the International Trade, Xiamen Sub-Council, this half-day program was well attended by over 100 officials and business leaders. Representatives from Idaho, Illinois and Ohio along with visa officials form the U.S. Consulate General, Guangzhou made presentation related to business climate, location, incentives and visas at the event.

Jacqueline Willis, Hong Kong Commissioner for Economic and Trade Affairs, USA hosted a luncheon reception for U.S. States & Ports Association, Greater China at Shanghai Club, 6 members attended the event.

USSPA participated in the South China International Transport and Logistics Exhibition (SITL) 2006 co-organized by Reed Exhibitions and CCPIT, at Guangzhou Jin Han Exhibition Center. USSPA and members' materials and publications were disseminated at the USA Pavilion. Participating members: Port of Long Beach, Port of Los Angeles, Port of New York & New Jersey, Port of Tacoma, State of North Carolina and State of Virginia.

USSPA and The Shenzhen International Business Exchange Center co-hosted an 'Investing in USA' seminar on 6/23/2006 attended by more than 80 local executives. USSPA hosted a farewell reception for Ms. Sarah Kemp, Commercial Consul of US Consulate General, Hong Kong at New Dynasty Scenic Restaurant. Ms Kemp will be taking up a new assignment at the U.S. Embassy in Beijing. The event was attended by 7 members.

Norman L. Li and Steven Zou representing the U.S.S.P.A., attended the "2nd Xian Round Table Meeting for Chambers of Commerce and Trade Association" and voted to proclaim the Xian Declaration at ITFCEW Forum in Xian.

USSPA hosted a lunch meeting at the American Club with Ms. Audrey Eu (余若薇), Legislator and House Leader of Civic Party in Hong Kong. 9 members & alumni attended the event.

USSPA hosted a Meeting CEO luncheon with Mr. Kenneth Ting (丁午壽), Chairman of the Hong Kong Federation of Industry, also Chairman of Kader Industries at the J.W. Marriott in Hong Kong. This outreach event was attended by 10 USSPA members. The USSPA annual election and bi-monthly meeting was held after lunch. The present executive line-up Norman L. Li, Edward Yau, and Salina Wong were re-elected as the President, Vice President, and Treasurer/Port Co-ordinator.

USSPA delegation visited Shenzhen. Held meetings with CCPIT Shenzhen office and Shenzhen Machinery Association to explore business opportunities. This outreach program was attended by 5 USSPA members.

USSPA, Greater China was invited to attend the CCPIT – US&FCS International Partner Network Xiamen Office Opening Ceremony and to speak at the Sino-American Trade Promotion Seminar in Xiamen, Province of Fujian. Representative from states of Illinois, North Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania and Port of Long Beach had attended.

Members of USSPA visited Esmond Lee, Deputy Director of Hong Kong Environmental Protection Department. Environmental issues and business opportunities in Hong Kong were discussed.
