USSPA participated in the
NAFTA Catalog Show organized by Taipei Importers & Exporters
Association in Taipei. Materials and publications of participating
members (Illinois, Ohio and North Carolina) were on display.
While in Taipei, the USSPA delegation also visited the American
Trade Center, American Chamber of Commerce, CETRA, Ministry
of Foreign Affairs, Board of Trade and Legislator John Chang.

USSPA hosted a luncheon reception at the Hong
Kong Marriott honoring the newly arrived U.S. Consul General to
Hong Kong, Hon. James R. Keith. Guests also included Ms. Alice
C. Moore, Consular Section Chief; Mr. Dien T. Ly, Vice Consul,
Commercial Section and Ms. Rose Mak, Commercial Specialist of
the U.S. Consulate General in Hong Kong. The Consul General gave
a briefing on the current terrorism issue in the U.S. to the 14
USSPA members attending the meeting. Business promotion co-operation
between the two agencies was also discussed. Bi-monthly meeting
was held after the luncheon. |

A special luncheon with Sir Gordon Y.S. Wu (胡
應 湘 爵 士), Chairman of Hopewell Holding Ltd., was organized at
the New Dynasty Scenic
Restaurant. Sir Gordon described how his proposed Hong Kong -
China - Macau Bridge Project could promote economic growth in
the Pearl River Delta in China. 10 USSPA members attended the
program.

Invited by Mr. Yun Tom, 7 USSPA members attended
dinner reception honoring Mr. Liang Xin, Secretary of the Communist
Committee of Sanxiang, Zhongshan City of Guangdong. Mr. Liang
spoke about Sanxiang as a hot target for foreign investments.

Bureau Office with Ms. Jacqueline Willis, Hong Kong Commissioner
for Economic and Trade Affairs, in U.S.A. and her staff to explore
cooperation in promoting Hong Kong business opportunities in the
U.S. 9 USSPA representatives attended the meeting.

Club with major trade associations in Hong Kong, including the
American Chamber of Commerce in Hong Kong (Mr. Frank Martin, President),
The Chinese General Chamber of Commerce, HK (Dr. Robin Y.H. Chan,
Chairman & also Chairman of Asia Commercial Bank), The Chinese
Manufacturers Association of Hong Kong (Mr. Francis Lau, Executive
Director), The Hong Kong Chinese Enterprises Association (Dr.
Fu Yu Ning, Vice-chairman, also President of China Merchants Holdings
Co., Ltd.), Hong Kong General Chamber of Commerce (Ms. Eva Chow,
Director of International Business), Hong Kong Productivity Council
(Mr. Edmund S.L. Sung, Director, Services & Business Branch),
Hong Kong Retail Management Association (Mr. Yu Pang Chun, Chairman
and also Director of Yue Hwa Chinese Products Emporium) and Hong
Kong Shippers' Council (Mr. Sunny Ho, Executive Director). This
outreach event was attended by 10 USSPA representatives. Bi-monthly
meeting was held after the luncheon.

visited Mr. Stephen Ip Shu-Kwan ( ),
Secretary for Economic Development
and Labour of Hong Kong and discussed the new opportunities for
U.S. business in taking the advantage of Hong Kong's world class
infrastructure, trading and financing strength in promoting business
in the Greater China market.

Five USSPA members had attended an informal lunch
at Hong Kong Marriott with Mr. Steward Ballard, Director and Senior
Commercial Officer, U.S. Commercial Liaison Office for the Asian
Development Bank in Manila, on Aug 22, 2002 to discuss ADB projects
for U.S. manufacturers and consultants.

The President of the USSPA along with 3 members
paid a courtesy visit to John Wan, Associate Director of Invest
Hong Kong and discussed their efforts in promoting Hong Kong as
the gateway to China and also as the prime location for regional
headquarters in Asia. |

USSPA hosted a farewell luncheon reception
for Mr. Ned Quistorff, Chief Commercial Officer, U.S. Consulate
General, Guangzhou, at New Dynasty Scenic Restaurant, Hong Kong.
The event was attended by 13 members and alumni. Mr. Quistorff
will be taking up new U.S. Department of Commerce assignment
at the APAC office in Seattle.

USSPA participated at the SME Market Day organized
by the Hong Kong Trade Development Council at the Hong Kong
Convention and Exhibition Centre. The event featured a wide
array of products and services targeting at SMEs, provided by
all relevant trade & service sectors and was well attended
by banks & finance companies, accounting firms, lawyers,
IT companies, industry & trade support organizations, government
departments and associations. USSPA and members’ materials and
publications were on display. 117 business leads were generated
for the following participating members:
Georgia Ports Authority, State of Illinols, State of Iowa, Port
of Long Beach, Port of Los Angeles, Port of New York and New
Jersey, State of North Carolina, State of Ohio, South Carolina
State Ports Authority, and Port of Tacoma.

Hon. Tsang Yok-Sing (曾鈺成), Chairman of Democratic
Alliance for Betterment of Hong Kong, also Councilor of Hong
Kong Special Administrative Region Legislative Council, discussed
the political and economic outlook in Hong Kong at the USSPA's
luncheon at the American Club. Ten members attended. Bi-monthly
meeting was held after the luncheon.

USSPA hosted a half-day seminar on "Doing
Business in the U.S." at the Hong Kong Riverside Hotel
to 88 participants of the Chinese Senior Management Training
Class sponsored by Chiang's Industrial Charity Foundation of
Hong Kong. The senior executives from various industries in
China were selected by the State Council in Beijing. Participating
members were California, Georgia Port, Illinois, Long Beach
and Ohio with guest speakers from Momentum (Asia) Ltd., and
Lingnan University.
